Layton (who will be playing drums for the show) just sent me this.
I'm really into the sound. Vocals do it just right to push it forward, rythm is all on point. Already makes me want to dance. Would love to see what doing something like this to live performance would be like.
Questions I keep coming back to include:
-What makes us want to 'get involved'?
-How can we speak to eachother in new ways?
-What kind of stories can be told through music?
Here's a sketch of another idea for an interactive installation. The electronic pants I'm working on would work well with this one. Also it would be quite possible to place switches on the floor in order for people to run in place. Going to start the environment in Unity, hopefully some sketches by next week.
Weekly progress for immersive and interactive musical event in April 2015. Arianna Bickle and I want to remove the stage from performance. She will be choreographing an interpretive dance to the music that I will develop in live space. There will also be interactive projection and installation involving the participation of those who come to the experience.

Sketch/$$$/Piano
A short sketchout of the space. Our plan is to rent it out from 5 - 9 on the first weekend of April on that Friday and Saturday. We've got the OK for leaving equipment around, the biggest leap is going to be covering all of the costs. Arianna and I have broken it down to it being a totally possible event if we cover 850 each, which will include insurance, liquor license, and all expenses.
In regards to the drawing however, I've taken a plan into considering how much piano I want to play (see video below) and am starting to think about the development of visuals to coincide with the piano itself. In some way I'd like to visualize the piano's music itself on the front, and it would be a sort of welcome wall to come into the space.
From there the instruments would be set up in a circle around one of the pillars in the room, and there would be free and encouraged movement around the setup, as chairs, drinks, food, installed works, and dancing of course would be happening around it.
Also I'm starting to toy with the idea of extra microphones. As many as realistically possible, of course. Hopefully I can work something out with the Merriam second floor. In the drawing there are two microphones at either end of the space, one essentially being in the middle of the windows, and the other at the dark end, mimicing a playground 'telephone' game.
Also available are going to be extra clothes for anyone interested in exploring alternate 'personalities'...!
There is also a sketch of a possible metal sculpture of a mirror faced man with a hacked television for his stomach...

Feeling Welcome in Toronto...
Thesis Thursdays. I've decide to update and work once a week on Thursdays, since I've got no class. It's a good day for me to take a break and run some errands, but also to settle down and think about life, projects, and what's going on on a greater scale.
That's what I want from this. I want to be able to look back at myself and the skills I've developed so far, and bring them into an opportunity for expression that even I can't imagine. It's in the future. It's not for me to know yet. The most I can do is work towards a goal that is somewhat tangible and let the rest fall into place. Alot has to do with just having faith, is what I've come to accept.
Anyways, Toronto's a blast. People here rule, and I've been getting a great chance to explore and see new places and things. One of my favorite things is starting each day by walking outside my building and seeing lake Ontario, and just smelling the Great Lakes air... Makes me feel like the beach house we stayed at this summer isn't too far away.
Wearable electronics seems like it's going to be pretty interesting. Mostly a place for me to get ideas and explore them as much as possible. Kate Hartman is my teacher, and she just published a new book called 'Making Electronics'. I'm a little torn between her wearables class and another guy, who so I hear makes the course more concentrated around microcontrollers as opposed to how she focuses on how the electronics are worn.
Here's a sketch of the project I'm working on, along with some of the visuals I hope to develop.
The latter seems to be a skill that I need to develop more, however, and I'm thinking I'm just gonna stick with her. Still checking out the other class though.
The main idea behind the visuals right now is a stylized oscilloscope, one based around a short narrative created depending on what cassette is chosen by the audience. Here's an example song of Max and I jamming out to 'Sailboat Voyage'.
Participants will select a cassette from the small selection of tapes, each of which will have a corresponding visual element, or game environment.
Participants would then proceed to play whatever game is created based on the cassette's created setting. For the Sailboat voyage, a small minigame involving a player in the boat, and others as fish in the water.
Another tentative game environment would be based around the idea of immersion and exploration. Definitely inspired by the simplicity of Sanic (check your speakers..). I feel that a game like this explores an area in development that raises question to satire in the form of character iconography. I'm fascinated by that, but also more interested in adopting a simple form in effort to allow music and participant ease of purpose (ie, go for the goal, but if you happen to choose a different option, you are rewarded).
